Without knowing what update you are talking about it is difficult to answer.
Maybe you upgraded to Catalina or Big Sur and you have an older 32 bit version of Microsoft Office installed. If so, you need to upgrade your Microsoft Office to a 64 bit version. Ofiice 2019 and Office 365 are 64 bit versions. But I'm only guessing because you did not provide any details about your system or what you updated.
