This isn't supposed to happen .....

All of a sudden B&W text won't print, from any application on my Mac. I am running Big Sur 11.0.1 on a 2017 27" iMac. It doesn't matter the source: pdf (Preview), Numbers, Pages, Mail, you name it: text will not print. I export the file as an image and the image files print just fine. I've tried rebooting both devices (printer is Canon color laser).

Earlier today I was futzing with font color in Mail. Currently it shows default settings.

I suspect that the font default is somehow changed for everything to white font. Everything I've been able to dig up via Google tells me each app controls it own font. However that doesn't seem to be the case. Any ideas?

Well we're making progress. I followed your instructions. I am impressed with the printer/scanner driver install. Nothing to download! The problem is mostly resolved. I tested several pdf files and they all printed. A Numbers table printed. An envelope in Pages printed.

However a bank statement pdf is still troublesome. It is printing the middle of each page, like an envelope is selected. I triple checked the paper selection in the printer and regular old 8.5x11 paper is selected and in the tray. I downloaded last months bank statement, that I know printed fine last month (I have it in my hands). It's now wonky, like an envelope printing (nothing above or below the central portion. I wonder if it is possible for the bank to issue pdfs that look OK but somehow aren't printing right.

rkaufman87, would you happen to have any ideas about the pdf bank statements from only the one bank that are now printing incorrectly, even those from prior months that previously printed properly? To test I printed a bunch of other pdfs and they all print properly. Pages, Numbers, etc all now print properly. It is only the pdf statements from the one bank, even those that previously printed OK. I only upgraded to Big Sur a couple of weeks ago, after last printing the pdf statement from the one bank. Could that bank be embedding something in their pdfs that Big Sur can't properly handle?
