Question

When I import a video color changes drastically

Hi,

I record my screen using Camtasia and when I export the video the colors are perfect. I played video using 3 different players colours are intact.

But when I import the video to Final cut pro x the color changes drastically, all the settings are set to default and no color grading is added. I tried to make changes under settings as you see in the video link below and nothing is working, and here is the link www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQjsDZANDzw&ab_channel=UpliftR

What are your settings in System Preferences->Displays->Color?

FCP requires that you use the default profile.

What Luis said, also can you open the original file in QuickTime player and sent a screenshot of what it shows in Window>Show Movie Inspector? Can you also send a screenshot of what it looks like in the QT player and what it looks like in the FCP viewer?

The first shot is playing in the QT player? Please give the Show Movie Inspector screenshot, or better yet as Luis asked, could you upload an original clip somewhere that it can accessed? Need to see why this is happening.

What OS? What version of FCP? What computer? What are the original media specs? Don't understand what you're trying to show in the video. What does it look like in the QT player? What does it look like in the FCP browser?

This is an original clip exported from Camtasia? It looks like you exported this from FCP. The Camtasia export should be in QuickTime.

I'm using Mac Big Sur Latest version. Final Cut Pro 10.5 Version. On Camtasia I rendered using different Media specs and formats such as mp4, mov. etc. It's playing fine on all the media players which includes VLC Player, Quick time player and I uploaded to YouTube and the colors are accurate.

The Import settings are default, I didn't make any changes.

On Final Cut Pro X the moment I select the video for import the color looks dull and after importing I tried to make changes as I showed in the video and nothing is fixing the issue.

I'm new to Mac environment and Final Cut Pro X. I searched online and couldn't find answer anywhere.

Hi,

I think I just found out the issue. When the video is played on VLC player color is accurate and it matches the original website color. https://www.namehero.com/

After I export the video from Camtasia the color looks different on QuickTime Player. I uploaded the rendered video to YouTube and the color is different from the original website color. https://youtu.be/5PsOtHMUmvM

The file which I sent earlier was exported from Camtasia in mp4 format. Here is another link QuickTime .mov file in Apple ProRes 422

Importing this into FCP I see no difference between what FCP and Quicktime Player display.

The left is QT Player, the right is the viewer in FCP.

So how to fix this issue? Which color is correct VLC or Quicktime? I make YouTube videos and earlier when I was a Windows user I never had come across such an issue. Please guide me. Thank you!

The color difference might only be that of the medium. We can really only look at this if you can upload an original clip, exported from Camtasia to somewhere that it can be downloaded. Export QuickTime. Upload to WeTransfer. Send it to yourself, and when you get the link, post it here.
