macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental Update 2

Hi all,

So now I'm posting this a second time because my Macbook Pro (15 inch, 2018, 2.9 Ghz Intel Core i9, 32GB) had another of its many kernel panics while posting. I have this kernel panic quite often and thought, based on what I read online, that it might have to do with my version of mac OS. This is because in this article

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210548

it is recommended that I install the Mojave 10.14.06 Supplemental Security Update in order to bring my system up to speed and possibly fix this constant crashing-in-the-middle-of-important-work-in-front-of-clients issue. This article includes the following statement:

"Installing macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental Update updates the build

number of macOS to 18G95. This build contains the security content

described in this article. If you updated to macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and

your macOS build is not 18G95, make sure you also install the

Supplemental Update. "

And since my machine has the "wrong" build (see below) it follows that I should install this supplement. Alas, the installer says:

"macOS Mojave 10.14.06 Supplemental Update 2 can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update. "

the disk in question is my machine's internal hard drive.

Is there a fix for my crashing computer? (Have reset n-vram, SMT, safe-booted - all to no avail)

here's an excerpt from the all-too familiar Problem Report for Kernel window:

The date for that Supplemental Update was over a year ago in August 2019.

The article you link to was published on the 17th September 2019.

There have been other updates since then that would have supersede this older update,

which you may have installed and that is why you cannot install it.

I am running an updated macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and the build number is 18G6042.

Which is the same build number that your mac is as indicated in your Kernel Panic.

Click on the top left of your screen then About This Mac click on System Report

go to Software and then Installations, click twice

on Install Date to see your installs listed as most recent first.

Open System Preferences> Software Update, are you getting any notifications for

updates for Mojave.

Yes ignore the Big Sur notification, I asked are you getting any notifications for

any Mojave updates.

If you are getting no update information for Mojave then you are up to date.

The kernel panics are a different matter and have nothing to do with which updates have or have not been installed.

Have you ran Disk Utility on your drive to check for any errors.

Have you downloaded and ran Etrecheck on your mac,

https://etrecheck.com just use the free version.

This will generate a report on your mac, highlight areas of concern if any.

Click Share Report at the top of the report.

You can paste the report back here in a reply

by clicking on the Additional Text button third from the right of the icons

on the toolbar at the bottom of a Reply window.

No personal information is included in the report.
