I have recently started getting a “cannot verify server “ notification related to imap.gmail.com and imap.aol.com; what’s this about and how do I correct it. My phone locks up until I hit cancel which is very frustrating and it keeps repeating it unless I restart my phone

You should consider deleting and re-adding your email accounts as described in this link:
