Ringer volume keeps going to full

I use my Airpods a lot for making calls on WhatsApp. But when I hang up and remove airpods from my ears, the phone’s ringer volume goes to full. It happens everytime both after audio and/or video call on WhatsApp. I thought it was a problem with WhatsApp, but recently I started making calls on Google Duo on my new iPad Air 4 using the same airpods, and once I hung up there, the same thing happened to the iPad, and its ringer volume went to full as well. Seems like a bug in iOS?

Double check something-

Open Settings Sounds & Haptics Ringer and Alerts : Make sure this is set to your liking. Set Change with Buttons to OFF

I’m in and out of noisy environments I really hate to be four clicks in to my settings to change the ringer volume. If the ringer would just go back to its previous setting when I turned off my Bluetooth then I could use the side buttons to adjust my ringer volume. Or at minimum put a ringer volume option in the control center so I can just swipe up to change it
