Pairing an iPhone 12 pro max with a MacBook Pro

When pairing an iPhone 12 pro max with a MacBook the MacBook displays a quick screen with a number to be matched on the iPhone but this number does not display on the iPhone. Where is the number supposed to display on the iPhone?

You do not do that by pairing the iPhone with the Mac. Follow the instructions here for that. Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support
