Flags in Mail - stuck

Apple Mail on my Mac tells me I have 1 email flagged orange. But, there is no email there. I have checked all my mailboxes on the iMac, iPhone and iPad and deleted any residual orange flags I could find. I also checked iCloud and while the flags there show orange, they are listing only what in Mail are my red flags.


So, I've got an empty orange flag that INSISTS that there is 1 orange-flagged email which does not appear to exist.


Can anyone help me clear this please?


I'm using Catalina 10.15.7. my iPhone is the new 12 Pro Max...and iPad a little older but not much happens on it anyway.

Hi, judysings, Thanks for getting back to me on this. I am waiting on a new iPad, but my iPhone 12 Max Pro had the right number of the right coloured flags and I had checked the red ones on iCloud itself...the empty orange one, however, disappeared late yesterday. I had gone through every single mailbox on my desktop about three times and then, suddenly, I turned off something - like sort by flags/date in an obscure box somewhere and, finally my iPhone and computer are in perfect harmony!


What I'm saying is that I fixed it by fluke but I'm so thankful you replied...the situation nearly drove me nuts. I keep a tidy computer/phone etc and things like that... well! Say no more.

It sounds like you have a badge showing one orange flagged email on your Mac that you can't find. You mentioned the orange flags in iCloud are actually red flags? Maybe check the red flagged messages as well. There was an update to iOS 14.3 on December 14 and the current macOS is Big Sur version 11.1. Try updating your new iPhone 12 Pro and restarting all devices to see if this refreshes the flagged messages on your device and in iCloud.
