Installing Mojave on an old laptop...

I recently installed an SSD on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro, did the recovery thing and got Mountain Lion on it.

I'm trying to download Mojave, but when it asks me to input my Apple ID and password, it says it's wrong, but I know it's not.

I also know Mojave will work on that computer, because it's working on the computer I'm asking the question on, which is the same model, only with 8gb of ram and the one giving me problems only has 4gb of ram.

Thanks!

Download Mojave on the mac that is running Mojave.

Open your Safari browser and click on this link below.

How to get old versions of macOS – Apple Support

Go to Download OS and click on macOS Mojave

this will redirect you to the App Store Mojave download page

it should say Get or Download.

This will download the Install macOS Mojave.app to your

Applications folder.

Once it has downloaded you can use the Install macOS Mojave.app

in the Applications folder and the createinstallmedia command in

Terminal to create a bootable USB stick, read more here.

How to create a bootable installer for macOS – Apple Support

Having created the bootable USB you can plug it directly into the other mac.

Restart the mac while pressing and holding the option/ alt key.

When it boots up you will see a Utilities panel.

Select Install OS and press Continue.

The installation should start up.

Follow the prompts.

I've created the bootable volume (thank you for that), tried to restart holding the option key and it only goes to the password screen to unlock the computer.

I've gone into recovery mode and it doesn't show the flash drive, doesn't show the Start Up Security Utility to allow external booting either. Tried to open the installer from the desktop and it has the circle with the line through it over the installer and when I try to open it, says it can't be opened because it's either damaged or incomplete.

I plug the drive into the computer I made it on and it's fine.

Gonna try burning it to a DVD and see what happens. edit: I don't have a DVD on hand that will hold 6gb, so scratch that idea

Thanks again!
