Unless you also have an iPhone using the same Apple ID as your iPad, you cannot use iPad to send SMS/MMS to non-Apple devices (Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Watch).

If iPad is your only device then you can only use iMessage to text other Apple device user.

Hello reina277,

We see that you're running into issues when trying to share pictures from the Photos app, specifically that a message appears stating your phone number isn't registered with iMessage.

If your Settings > Messages is configured to send from the phone number of your iPhone as well, then you'll need to make sure and have it registered. Follow the steps here: Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime

Take care.

Your iPad is not a cellular telephone. It has absolutely no capability to send or receive standard cellular SMS or MMS text messages to/from cellular telephones. All it can do is send/receive iMessages to/from other Apple devices.

The above is true regardless of whether your iPad is a cellular model.
