How do I reduce storage used by VoiceMemos on my iPhone?

After spending two hours learning how to manage home computer location of voice memos at [user]/Library/Application Support/com.apple.voicememos/Recordings where all your voice memos ever should be saved (?) if iCloud is syncing properly among devices, I have deleted all my longer voice memos off the iPhone instance of the app. This does not seem to impact the 13.8 GIGABYTES of storage being used for Voice Memos files on my iPhone (or, possibly the storage indicated is incorrect, because the files are actually in the cloud????????).

// Anyway, now that I feel confident I can delete voice memos off my iPhone while retaining at least the data files (but not the library file names) of my voice memo recordings, I am still hitting a brick wall how to reduce Voice Memos file storage footprint on my iPhone. HELP! I've been trying to find answers for more than 2 years!!!

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Hello robmonk,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your post that while you have delete voice memo's off your iPhone the amount of space they take up still shows 13.8 GB. If you have already restarted your device, and the voice memo's still take up space, try backing up your iPhone and then reinstalling the software. The following article has the steps on how to backup your iPhone:

By using the steps as listed under the heading "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" from the following article you can reinstall the software on your iPhone:

Best Regards.
