randomly... like at dust and dawn? light mode vs dark mode?
Go to Settings > Display & Brightness and you can check Light and Dark, see if this is what you are experiencing
If so, there is a toggle switch for 'Automatic', if you want it to stay in one of those modes, turn off Automatic.
