Apple EarPods mic and controls not working but sound is working

the EarPods that came with my iPhone are producing sound but the mic suddenly stopped working along with the controls (volume and pause music button) I’ve only used it for couple of months and it’s very disappointing, it happened to other set of EarPods also, I am starting to doubt the build quality of apple

(No water damage no abuse tried it in other phones as it didn’t work and tried other headphones and they worked so no software problems or debris in the socket)
