EarPods mic suddenly not working

Hi All,

I have iPhone7 and iPad 6th. Two EarPods (newer version) were working fine. For a few weeks/maybe months the mic of the EarPods stopped working on both of them and even when changing devices.

I cannot use mic on cabble during calls, Voice Recorder records silent static. Unplugged, the devices work fine with built in mic.

If I switch them between devices, same happens. Connectors are good, they charge normally when plugged in. Newest sw running on them.

What can it be? Any software update related problem? Very-very not good, kind of destroys the use of them.

I will try test the pods with a 3rd device and the other way around to see more...

Thanks, this is exactly why I wrote down all the details. None of this article helps in any way.

It is not working, period.

I would not assume that the Earpods both went wrong the same time and the devices are working with no EarPods attached, the only logical explanation would be the software...or what else. I read in multiple posts that people have this problem, but also I see that not all of them have it. Which makes it more strange.
