I just bought a new mac from costco. Why is it a 2017 model?

I thought that I just bought a brand new iMac from Costco 11/2020. When I set it up, I see that it is a 2017 model. How are they selling these as new when they are actually already 3 years old?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

They are not 3 years old. They are designated as a 2017 because:


a. no newer model has been introduced since, so they are the current model, and


b. they were given that designation because that is when they were introduced.


I am sure that yours was made recently.


As an aside, I hope you did not get the base model with a paltry ultra slow 5400 rpm hard drive? Hopefully you have an SSD?
