FaceTiming from iOS 14 to ios12

Hi,

is there going to be an update to resolve the FaceTime issues between ios14 and iOS 12 ? I can only FaceTime for 8 minutes then the call fails. I’ve tried all the steps on the FaceTime issues page.

cheers

Mickchristie6,

Thanks for confirming. Does the issue occur with any caller that attempts to FaceTime the iPhone running iOS 14? We want to make sure the issue isn't isolated to just the devices in the same home. Are all the devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network? If so, does restarting the router/modem show any improvement?

Let's try restarting the device: Restart your iPhone

Have a great day.

Mickchristie6,

Got it. Thanks for clarifying those details. Are the devices in question, running the latest versions of iOS 12? If not, let's try updating them both to the highest iOS version compatible with those devices and then try again. If a VPN is enabled on either device, let's also test temporarily disabling the VPN and test again.

All the best.

HI Jeff,

Yes, on my ipad ios 14 the call freezes and comes up with poor connnection and tries to reconnect and fails. On the IOS 12 ipad and iphone, a green bar comes up on the top of the screen saying touch to reconnect and fails.

I've tried the support article, but it doesn't resolve anything. This only started happening when i updated to IOS 14.

The Ipad and iphone are unable to update to IOS 14 as they are a bit older.

Cheers

Hi Raina,

My Ipad currently has IOS14 , the parents back home have an iphone each, one is IOs12 and the other is IOS14, the ipad they have is IOS12. When I facetime the IOS12 ipad an iphone, the face time lasts 8 minutes max. As be above.

If i facetime the iphone with IOS14 there are no issues.

I've tried restarting all devices, routers etc.

This was never an issues till i updated to IOS14.

Thanks

Hi Moonj,

Yes my ipad has the new IOS14.3 that came out the other day, the Ipad and Iphone that are on IOS12 are no longer able to be updated. They are running the highest IOS that is avaible to them. We dont use a VPN on any devices.

Like i've said previously this wasnt an issue prior to the update to IOS14.

Its rather annoying having to facetime for 8 minutes at a time.

Thanks for your help.

I have exactly the same issue, but time is not always 8 minutes in my case, sometimes is less.

I have try with several devices, OS and networks.

it happens just with some combinations But can’t identify any pattern (at this time) but always happens brewing the same devices.

I also try restoring some of the devices, deleting and reinstalling Facetime... and the issue persist. This stars happens since last weeks of October 2020. Today is Dec 19th 2020

I am in the US, my parents in Spain. The have yet with iPad and iPhone, with wifi and cell data.

and it is very weird.

I have try with this devices:

Spain:

A - iPad 4th Gen OS 10.3.3

B - iPhone 6+ OS 12.4.9

United States:

C - iPad Air 2 13.3

D - iPad Air 2 14.3

E - iPhone 11 Pro Max 14.2

F - IPad Mini 4 OS 13.3

Example of combinations (using different networks)

A+C - Fails

A+D - Fails

A+E - Works

A+F - Works

C+C - Fails

C+D - Fails

C+E - Works

C+F - Works

i also tried some test with friends also with a MacBook Pro Late 2015 and I got the same random issues (fails and works with all and new versions and models)

I hope this helps.

We need a Solution ASAP please.

We use FaceTime dairy (work and family) and dropping the call every few minutes it’s desperate.
