I recently brought a MacBook Air and it has been shutting down when it gets to 40% and wont turn on again until I plug it in. Once plugged in it will either show it still has around 40% or will go straight to 0%. I only purchased this 3 months ago! I have tried the SMC reset but nothing works

I did cant online and they suggested to reinstall the Mac OS and it have been installing for 12 hours and isn’t finished and it says 28 mins left and the fan is really loud! I just want my computer to work properly without having to worry about it shutting off
