Why does my call disconnect when I open and close my air pod case? While actively on a call, if I open and close the case to remove or replace a bud my phone call ends. Is there a setting to fix this issue?

So I took your advice and called my bank so I could play around with the AirPods Pro while on a call and this is what I discovered. As long as the case is empty, the call will not drop when closing the case. If you start the call with one AirPod and open the case to get second one out midway through the call and then close the case you should be fine. But if you start with both AirPods in your ear and decide you only want to use one AirPod midway through the call, then closing the case will end the call if at least one AirPod is in the case. I believe this happens because the case goes into charging mode. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your help :-)
I've used to have same issue using the AirPods Pro. Hence I avoided opening / closing the AirPods Pro Case while on the call. However, recently while on the call, I had to open the Case to take the second bud and then close the Case, and the call did not drop. So the issue no longer persists, at least on the iOS 14.2 upgrade.
Perhaps, try calling a number like a bank or govt service that requires to pre-select from a menu first so that you have ample time to test how the AirPods are behaving without inconveniencing a real person on another line, and see whether disconnection occurs again.
In the Bluetooth menu for the AirPods there does not seem to be any specific section dealing with iPhone's reaction to opening / closing of the AirPods Case. Just in case, my present Settings>Bluetooth>AirPods Pro>(i) are:
Press and hold left: Siri
Press and hold right: noise control
Automatic ear detection: yes
Connect to this phone: automatically
Spatial audio: yes
Microphone: automatic
Optimize battery charging: yes

I am currently running iOS 14.3 and I’m still having a problem with the call ending upon closing the case of my AirPods Pro. I haven’t found any discussions about this so I am a bit relieved to find out that I’m not the only person who has experienced this issue. Once I’m already on a call and decide to use my AirPods in the middle of the call I basically have to leave the case open during the call. This is really annoying because sometimes I forget to not close the case which results in me hanging up on the other party. Thanks so much for your reply. I hope I can find a fix soon.
