Initiating a Phone Call from Mac Mohave

Gear: Macbook pro 2018 - Mohave and iPhone 8 - ios 14

I would like to be able to open my Apple contacts, find a person and then click on the phone number and have Mohave then initiate a call on my iPhone.

i tried this...

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209456

in ios phone settings - calls on other devices– I selected the iPad and the MacBook pro.

I was able to initiate the call from my iPad, however I got an error message on the Mac:

Your iPhone and Mac Must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

The problem is: they are on the same Wi-Fi network so I am unclear what the problem is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey revDAVE,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are trying to initiate a call from your MacBook but get a message indicating that your iPhone and MacBook must be on the same network.

The feature you mentions is Handoff which may be set up on your iPhone but not your Mac. First, check your Mac settings using the guidance from Pick up where you left off with Handoff on Mac.

Are you using firewall protection currently? If so, disable that and test again. You may not have allowed access and can also change which apps are allowed if so. Check out Use a firewall to prevent unwanted connections on Mac.

Cheers!
