Why The Question Mark ?

Just went to plug my phone into my MacBook to sync everything, Back up and update to 14.3 software but when I did I noticed a question mark on my phone as per picture.

Anyone shed any light on this ??

Hello Trophy376,

We understand that you would like to get some information about the question mark over your iPhone icon.

Is this the first time that you have synced your iPhone with this MacBook? If so, you may be prompted to trust this computer which may help your MacBook to recognize your iPhone. Check out About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch for further details.

If you've done that and still see the same question mark, check to make sure that your iPhone name matches from Settings > General > About.

Thanks!

Thanks Trophy376,

Which macOS is installed on your MacBook? Make sure that your MacBook has the latest available version so that it can recognize your iPhone. Check out if your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod for this and other troubleshooting steps.

Are you able to sync and perform other actions for your iPhone 12 or are those functions not working properly?

Have a great day!

Trophy376,

Do you see any error messages when you try to sync your iPhone with your MacBook Pro? If there is a specific error message, check the Find an iTunes or the Finder error code for troubleshooting steps for that specific error message.

If you don't see your error code in that list, we would recommend the basic steps from If you see an error in Finder or iTunes on your computer.

Best wishes.

The phone has been been reset and erased more than 4 times and restarted as a new phone and not restored as a backup due to many issues I am having with various other things.

Every time I have done my phone and set up as a new phone I have always checked and trusted my phone with my MacBook and I have always named them correctly.

Ever since getting my iPhone 12 I have had nothing but software issues that im trying to resolve and im sorry to say none of the above has worked.

Here is the details of my MacBook -

macOS Catalina

Version 10.15.7

MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012

2.9GHz Core 17

16gb Of Ram

1TB SSD

Here is the details of my iPhone

Iphone 12 Pro

MGMP3B/A

256gb

Version 14.3

There is many issues im having just now so I have booked an appointment at my local apple store

My pictures don't sync, My videos don't sync amongst other issues and to be honest its the worst apple experience I have ever had.

The phone fully works and has been reset 3/4 times and from a new device (NOT BACKED UP OR TAKEN FROM RESTORE)

The MacBook may be old but its only had a new 1TB SSD installed around 2 months ago with apple themselves putting all the correct software on the MacBook so it was once again started from scratch and started from fresh with no backups being used.
