With the release today, can two users do an exercise at the same time on AppleTV?

I agree that this is a great feature for couples or workout partners. We're using a workaround to get the same result: one of us signs on with the Apple TV, and the other signs on using their iPhone. We press play together , then we both follow the TV version. We can only see one set of vitals onscreen, but at least for now we're moving together. I hope dual sign in, with dual vitals displayed is in the works.

I just bought an iPad stricly for my family to use it as a fitness screen and you can’t even change between user accounts within the fitness app or the iPad. Therefore I just bought an iPad for myself that I had no need for. I guess I should’ve checked first but I thought this would be a very obvious feature. Although I like the app, they need to add household compatability or it is not worth it for me. Fingers crossed for some sort of update if it’s as easy as that.

I’m sure they considered this feature but it was not deemed as essential for the initial launch. If it means leaving the feature out to get the product launched before Christmas vs trying to get the feature in and delaying Fitness+ until 2021, i’m sure most people would prefer getting it out first and wait for the update.

Just wanted to follow-up on this. So, if you have an iPhone and an AppleTV, you can sort of workout together till Apple fixes the problem using the idea I noted above; however, using an iPad is NOT an option. We have one iPad that we share. I setup the AppleTV and the iPad. So, both are tied to my account. We can find no way to get OUR iPad with Fitness to work with her watch. This is as ridiculous as not being able to just use the AppleTV together. Am I overlooking something? Anyone know how to switch users on Apple Fitness on a shared iPad?

Hey Michael, you are not overlooking anything unfortunately. Imagine how disappointed I was when I purchased an iPad for my household to collectively use as a workout screen, coming to find it only lets ME use it. Especially disappointing considering we were going to split the cost three ways. Not only am I out $400 during difficult times, but my household can still not work out with anything but their small phone screen. We can’t afford to purchase a separate TV for our makeshift workout room so I feel I just keep digging myself a hole with this app. Unfortunate because I do enjoy the content. Hopefully they fix this soon.

Yeah. The only thing that makes sense to me at this point, considering that the service for a family plan is meant to be shared and marketed as such, is that Apple is pushing us to purchase additional phones and iPads, and I suppose even multiple AppleTVs to link to each watch individually. That is just not going to happen, at least not for us. A shared iPad is fine, and a shared AppleTV is plenty. Multiple watches of course make sense, and an iPhone isn't a sufficient sized screen for workouts. Just my opinion on it all. In short, pretty crummy and it has me re-considering all service costs in general.

Apple,

Please let more than one watch connect to Fitness+.

My wife and I like doing workouts together and we would like to have BOTH of our progress show on the screen.

Please set up a Fitness+ “family plan” or something. I don’t mind paying a bit more if needed but this is DEFINITELY something that myself and many more NEED.

Otherwise, I might as well just use a free app or YouTube to workout with my wife.

Thanks

I agree with the others below this is something that should have been thought about and added at the beginning, as with the current world wide situation where we find so many of us at home, home schooling, working from home etc. working out together is common. ATM I am having to launch the work out on my phone they same time as my partner in order to get to workout together. This is the only thing I can see letting the app down, I am loving the work outs, although some I am not able to do as don't have certain equipment at home, but the no equipment ones I am loving. Keep them coming Apple!

Our family has cancelled our apple fitness subscription due to the fact that we cannot use apple fitness or track our progress in the same apple fitness session. It has been over three months since apple fitness was released without this issue being addressed. I have followed this forum closely because I was hoping apple would take this request seriously. There have been many posts on the issue but no communication on a resolution has been provided.

Pretty sure that Apple is trying to coerce us into buying more devices, including multiple Apple TVs for each family member maybe. This was an implementation or marketing decision, not a hardware limitation. You can tell because every phone and iPad and remote can pair with the Apple TV to control it, but they limit you to just one watch pairing.

Furthermore, if you have an iPad that your family shares, you'll be sad to find that it can only pair with one watch as well. Worse, one specific watch OR no watch depending on who setup the iPad. We discovered this when I had the idea that one of us would pair one watch with the Apple TV, the other would pair with the family iPad, and then we'd start the same routines at the same time. That's a no go if the Apple ID isn't the same as either watch. Doesn't work at all. Pointless. Unless someone knows how to switch users on an iPad??

The worst part of all of this is that we fell for the marketing. We subscribed to the family plan to get Apple TV+ and Apple Fitness. The irony.

So, yeah. Right there with ya. Checking in regularly hoping they'll "fix" it, but I've my doubts.
