On my System Preferences app, I get a reminder to install an update. However, this is not an update from Apple. How can I eliminate the constant reminder to install this and remove the red dot? (I still want to be notified when there are authentic Apple updates but those come up on their app.)

Those are both from Apple, click on the More info… text.
Download them one at a time, make sure your Mac is connected to your router via cable,
do not use the Mac while it is downloading or any other devices that share the same internet connection.
System Preferences> Software Update only informs you of updates from Apple.
