Alien sound when using Skype, Zoom, ...?

Since university is mostly online these days I have weird sound problems when using Skype, Zoom, or other video-call-services. When the presenter (or other people in the call) talks the sound is very distorted and sounds almost robot/alien like and cuts outs all the time. It doesn't matter if the sound comes from Safari, Chrome or an app.

Sometimes it works miraculously after a few minutes and sometimes it doesn't. I have not figured out how to solve this yet. And the same thing happens at my girlfriend's MacBook Pro too, who has the same model.

Surprisingly, this doesn't happen with Facetime.

Help?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

Hello unlachs,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! We understand you are having trouble with video call services. We're happy to help you in any way possible.

Try connecting to a different network to see if the same thing occurs. Also, test on a different device to see if the same thing happens. This will help you determine where the problem lies.

If you don't have another device, create a test user account to see if the same thing happens there. This will help determine if the issue is system-wide:
