Moving Motion Templates folder to an external drive? (Catalina)

Hi, I tried to move Motion Templates folder to an external drive with symlink (using terminal) but when I start FCPX the Motion Templates creates second folder so there are to same folder and it doesn't work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

renamed folder to "Motion Templates.localized" it worked

Sorry, the correct version would be of the form below (in an earlier post I had written it incorrectly, but the OP seems to have understood what I meant) This is the right way:


ln -s /Volumes/ExternalDriveName/Motion\ Templates.localized Motion\ Templates.localized

Here is how I did it.


1) Draged the Motion Templates folder to an external hard drive

2) Deleted the original folder from Movies folder

3) Open Terminal

4) Type cd ~/Movie and press enter

5) Type ln -s ending with a SPACE but do NOT press enter

6) Drag the Motion Templates folder from the external drive onto the Terminal window.

Do NOT press enter yet

7) Type and press enter.


the command may look like this:


ln -s /Volumes/ExternalDriveName/Motion\ Templates.localized
