iCloud says it doesn't support iPhoto and to update to Photo. How do I do so?

Launch Photos with the Option key held down, click on Other Library, and choose the iPhoto one.

Niel,

Thanks for your prompt response and concise instructions, but I'm going to need a little more clarification before I dare implement them.

I am running Photos on my laptop--it is iCloud that doesn't appear to be "running" Photos. Instead there is an iPhoto logo with the cross-out sign over it.

If I do what you say above and choose iPhoto what does that accomplish? And what happens to my "old" photos that were on iPhoto? I've been unable to see any more than a thumbnail of them for years now. Can I still access the entire photo? If this is all more than you signed on for, do you have any recommendation for support?
