Left click not working

Hey, weird issue.

The left click on my MacBook Pro (A1502) isn’t registering and I’m at my wits end after trying many different solutions:

-replaced the battery (was swollen)

-SMC and PRAM resets

-login as another user

-cleaned all the keys in case they were sticking and checking if they are being pressed using a key viewer

-disabling Bluetooth devices in case there was a conflict

-enable tap to click

-disabling trackpad when mouse is connected

The only way I can get a left click currently is by enabling mouse keys or by switching the left and right clicks around and using an external mouse. Just to clarify, using an external mouse also produces the same issue (lack of left click), and with having the trackpad disabled through options, I’ve had to assume that this is some software issue rather than a faulty trackpad.

Hello Grelline,

Thanks for keeping us updated on this issue. We appreciate you testing the issue in safe mode as well. Since the issue also occurs in safe mode and in another user account, this may indicate a system wide issue.

To continue with our troubleshooting, we'd like you to test the issue in macOS Recovery as well, if you haven't already done so yet.

To begin, utilize the "Start up your Intel-based Mac in macOS Recovery" section of this resource to boot into macOS Recovery: Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac

Once you have successfully booted into macOS Recovery, select the "Safari" option in the Recovery window. Once there, check to see if the issue still persists with the built-in trackpad.

The steps above will help us further isolate the issue. Keep us updated on your findings.

Cheers!

Hello Grelline,

We'd like to help with the issue you're experiencing with your Mac's trackpad. We appreciate all the steps you have taken and the details you have provided regarding this issue.

You mentioned that you tested this issue in another user. To confirm, did the issue persist when you logged into a different user?

Also, what macOS version is currently installed on your Mac?

We have another isolation step we'd like for you to try. If you haven't already, start up your Mac in safe mode to see if the issue persists there. This will help us determine if the issue is caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. Check here for the steps to boot into safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode

Let us know how it goes.

To confirm, switching to a new user produced the same problem.

I have also started in safe mode, and this also had the same issue.

The only way that the MacBook Pro is usable is to switch the left and right buttons around and using a wireless mouse. Should also point out that the right click on the trackpad works, but not all the time (maybe one in three right clicks work), but the right click works perfectly on the wireless mouse.
