Fitness+ with lightning to HDMI adapter

Has anyone tried to use Lighting to HDMI adapter to play new Fitness+ program? It did not work for me.

My set up:

I don't have a TV in my home gym. But I do have a large white wall. So I thought I could just use my portable projector to project the Fitness+ program onto the large white wall and work out that way, almost perfect right?

I have iPhone 12 mini (instant regret to play any videos on it and watch while working out is a pain duh), and I have the Apple branded Lightning to digital AV adapter. I use the same adapter and same portable projector to play Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, HBO, Spectrum TV, and Peloton workout app all just fine, so I don't think it's a copy right issue. But when I tried to use the same way to mirror the new Fitness+ program, the screen will go as far as the workout count down, 3, 2, 1 then projector screen would go blank, and video feed would switch back to my tiny 12 mini screen. but the sound would still play out from projector speaker, just no video. Any solution / thought?

thanks!

I’m joining this club.

Maddening and frustrating. Plus the sellers of cables on Amazon UK at least, don’t seem to know this restriction. They warn about not being able to use Netflix etc. So I purchased thinking it would be fine.

Apple is crazy to think users will buy an Apple TV (I already have one but not in the room I’m using for Apple Fitness+ in lockdown UK) or use an iPhone screen.

I know Apple don’t bother looking at this forum but I’ll write it anyway...

...get this sorted Apple. Craziness.

"Apple Fitness+ supports AirPlay 2-enabled TVs or devices, allowing you to stream the audio and video from your Fitness+ workouts. Onscreen metrics aren’t available when using AirPlay. Metrics such as timers, heart rate, and Activity Ring celebrations are still available on your Apple Watch." Devices you can use with Apple Fitness+ April 26, 2021

Several Roku models recently got firmware updates to support AirPlay, and work well with Fitness+.

My Test Results

iPhone 8+, iOS 14.5.1

Play full Fitness+ workouts (not just previews) via AirPlay on both a cheap 1080P projector, and a 1080p monitor

I’ve had the same problem but I have solved it! I connect my old iPad to my tv with the lighting/HDMI adapter and launch the photo app. I adjust my iPhone behind the iPad and now my Apple fitness app is on my TV! Woo.

yes I know it’s not Airplay and not so easy as Apple is supposed to be. But it works and i don’t have to buy a new device for fitness on my tv. So...

I have the same issue. I can't project Fitness+ from my iphone 8 to smart tv using lightning to HDMI cable.
Can Apple reply to this please on how to make it work without me buying an Apple TV?

No, Apple will not be replying here in this user-to-user forum. You can let Apple know this is a feature you'd like them to consider adding in the future:

I'd recommend using the Apple Watch section of feedback at this time.

I have the same problem. Using Apple branded lightening to hdmi converter with Apple fitness app playing on iPhone 11. The preview of the workout projects onto tv perfectly but the actual full workout swaps back to phone after the 3, 2, 1 count down. May try the iPad work around if I can find a usbc to hdmi converter otherwise I’ll stick to peloton...disappointing functionality by Apple.

I called Apple support and they told me you have to have Apple TV in order to make the video display on your TV because the app requires it. However, that’s not true. You can watch the Previews within the app on your TV just fine. You just can’t watch the workouts. It seems logical to me that someone deliberately disabled this to force you to get Apple TV. That is wrong on every level. I will return my Apple cable and will find a workaround and make sure I share it when I do. Shame on Apple.
