You cannot use the iPad Magic Keyboard, or its Trackpad, unless it is docked with the iPad; the smart connector contacts that mate the two provides power and signalling between iPad and Keyboard/Trackpad.


If you wish to separate the iPad, you’ll have to use a standalone Bluetooth Keyboard and Trackpad. Apple have standalone Bluetooth versions of both - the [confusingly named] Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2 (both for Mac and iPad).

Hello,

I was asking about the magic keyboard that has the trackpad, can I use the keyboard without it being attached to the iPad, because I want to buy a case for the iPad that covers the entire iPad, not just the back/front, something that covers the edges as well, but I don’t know if I can still use the magic keyboard with the other case, because it won’t be able to attach magnetically.
