hp/mac printer problem

I have an HP 2600 series all in one printer. I cannot print from my mac and get a hold for authentication message on the print line. I have read a lot of complaints regarding mac/hp connectivity and how mac is blocking the printer from functioning. It looks like mac has dropped this issue and everyone else in the crapper with no resolution. Is there anyone out there who has a simple fix for this problem. I am not a computer genius and would appreciate any feedback and info
