Xcode taking ages to install - is it an Apple malignant plan to wear out our computers?

This is not the first time, but this time I'm really ****** off.

I own a 2018 MacBook Air, I5, 16 GB memory and 512 GB SSD.

I finished the Xcode 12.3 update around 6 hours ago and it is still installing.

Unbelievable.

Solution: uninstall Xcode and never use it again.

I'm very sorry for the folks that use Xcode professionally - wasting a full day/night just installing it.

Xcode 12.3 is as large (compressed) as Big Sur. It is a slow installation on a good day with a fast network and a Mac with your specs. As it is newly available, and there are n-tuple millions around the world using it, it would not surprise me that it took an extended timeframe to install it due to the load on Apple's servers.

That said, I no longer install it, as everything that I need for my development purposes is available in the command-line tools for Xcode 12.3. This is a 450MB (compressed) download that still expands to 2.4 GB of storage, but downloads and installs within ten minutes. All you need for homebrew, MacPorts, RVM, or rbenv builds.
