My guess is you’re not the only Android user struggling with an issue regarding the most recent firmware update. Apple very recently changed the firmware update process for all wireless Apple products to OTA (over the air) for all Apple devices, and it’s causing problems for non-Apple users. I’m assuming since you were going back and forth between an Android device and an Apple device that most likely would be how the problem developed. Completely not your fault, just two different operating systems trying to do the same thing but in different ways.
It sounds to me that somehow the firmware did indeed update, but there’s some sort of a problem connecting to the two different operators. Since Apple only updates over the air for this device, I’d recommend you troubleshoot this on the Android end. To the best of my knowledge there’s no way to revert the firmware, and to be honest I don’t think that would necessarily “fix” anything. Oh, and I hate to sound like a broken record, but you are going to have to reset them again. I’m assuming you’re like most people and would be using it with your mobile more often than your MacBook, so we’ll start there. Ultimately, the goal is of course to be able to use your Powerbeats with both. But, first things first, let’s see if we can get them working with at least one device.
On your MacBook, you’re going to need to remove your Powerbeats Pro.
- Go to the Apple menu and choose ‘System Preferences’
- Choose “Bluetooth” preference panel
- Locate and click on the Bluetooth Device you want to disconnect and remove from the Mac
- Click the (X) button to remove the Bluetooth Device
- Confirm that you want to remove and disconnect the Bluetooth device from the Mac
By doing this, you’re removing the device from the recognized Bluetooth devices and it will no longer be associated with your Mac. Don’t worry, you can always add them back just as easily.
To be certain your MacBook won’t attempt to connect to your Powerbeats while we do the next steps, either: 1-Turn off Bluetooth on the MacBook or 2-Completely power down your MacBook.
Now onto the Android...
Essentially, we’re going to attempt to set the Powerbeats up as if they were brand new, and never paired with any other device previously.
First, forget your Powerbeats Pro from the Bluetooth settings on your Android device.
Second, UNINSTALL the Beats application for Android from your Android device.
Third, perform a reset on your Powerbeats Pro. (Below are the instructions for doing this.)
-Plug in your Powerbeats case with the black lightning cable that should’ve come with the headphones.
-Place both earbuds in the case.
-Leave the case open. Press and hold the system button on the case for 15 seconds or until the LED indicator light flashes red and white. Release the system button.
-The LED indicator light will continue to flash white, which means that you can pair your Powerbeats Pro with your iPhone, Mac, Android device, or other device again. Leave the Powerbeats Pro case OPEN. You may close it after your device is powered off, during the next step.
Fourth, power off your Android device. Wait 30-60 seconds, then power it back on while plugged into the charger and connected to WiFi.
Now, install the Beats app for Android from the Google play store.
Lastly, after the application installation is complete, continue to set up your wireless device on your Android as if it were brand new.
Let me know if this fixed the issue, and if you ran into any unexpected issues along the way. Good luck!
