Google Chrome location services won't stay enabled!

I am trying to enable location services on Google Chrome. Of course, I have already allowed location services within Chrome. When using google maps, I get a pop up that says "Location is turned off in Mac System Preferences". I then click and it takes me to Security & Privacy > Location Services. Enable location services is checked off, and Google Chrome is checked off (temporarily). I click the lock to prevent further changes. I return back to maps, refresh the page and get the same error. I click the pop up to take me to location services and GOOGLE CHROME IS DISABLED/ UNCHECKED. The settings seem to be changing on their own and reverting back to unchecked. It's a frustrating issue! I've cleared the cache and tried reinstallation with no avail.

^^^ This should be marked as the correct answer for this issue cos it provides good info and a workaround.

The Chrome bug report explains that the issue happens if you access OS Location permissions while a Chrome update is pending (see comment #10).

Until the bug is fixed, the workaround is to update Chrome, then set the location permissions. They should stick until at least when the next Chrome update is released. It does seem to be working for me.
