Google Chrome location services won't stay enabled!

I am trying to enable location services on Google Chrome. Of course, I have already allowed location services within Chrome. When using google maps, I get a pop up that says "Location is turned off in Mac System Preferences". I then click and it takes me to Security & Privacy > Location Services. Enable location services is checked off, and Google Chrome is checked off (temporarily). I click the lock to prevent further changes. I return back to maps, refresh the page and get the same error. I click the pop up to take me to location services and GOOGLE CHROME IS DISABLED/ UNCHECKED. The settings seem to be changing on their own and reverting back to unchecked. It's a frustrating issue! I've cleared the cache and tried reinstallation with no avail.

Good job going over what you are noticing with Google Chrome. We are here to help go over your Privacy preferences on the Mac together.

Have you already checked if there are any updates to the Google Chrome app or macOS?

Change Privacy preferences on Mac using this article to see if the same thing happens with another application like Safari.

How to use safe mode on your Mac will go over another step we want to check. Does the System Preferences revert while using safe mode?

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac with the steps here. If you don't have another user, let's create a test user and set it up. Does the same thing happen if you use Google Chrome?

This is NOT a Big Sur issue, nor is it related to Apple Sillicon mac.

This happen on every macOS version and on Intel Mac too

My solution was to abandon Chrome for Firefox. Location problem is sorted and the Chrome FLoC tracking sneakery is skirted. I still think this is an OS X issue though.

i experience the very same problem. I wouldn't call that problem "solved". After every chrome update the setting gets reverted and one has to reenable it again. It also happens with Chrome 90

There hasn't been any update to Chrome since version 90 so how do you know it's not fixed ? You'll need to wait for Chrome 91 in 4-6 weeks

This has nothing to do with Chrome. I don't use Chrome, and the Locations Services still disables itself after every restart.

You have a different issue from what is discussed here. The issue was definitely with Chrome. Affected all version of macOS and was clearly fixed with Chrome 91

The answer is simple. Apple does this on purpose so you won't use chrome.

Why are you saying things like that ? The issue was within Chrome and not macOS. Google resolved the issue with Chrome 91

Just adding myself to the list of users this is impacting- not a Chrome issue, it is in preferences. It is extremely annoying to have to keep updating it, please find a fix!!
