I have a 2019 Mac pro laptop and I am unable to plug in my audio TC electronic BMC -2. TC electronic BMC -2 has optical input. My new 2019 laptop only has a headphone jack from 1985 or before . So I bought the converter (headphone jack to optical out) but it's still not showing a red beam. Anybody have an answer?

Use a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Hub. If this takes up a lot of power, then get one that is externally-powered. Where to look other than Amazon:

Reinstall the macOS:
This is an input device, correct? By what you've provided, it is only showing the Mac's microphone - not this device. So, try reinstalling the macOS, getting all of the drivers reinstalled.
First, Back up your Mac:
Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac, so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall.
Then, Reinstall the macOS:

Yep I did that as well and no luck. You're right I didn't get an apple one so maybe that's the problem. The truth is this is for a friend who only has two USB-c ports on his computer so technically only one because he uses the other port for his power. The other USB-C well obviously he hast to plug in his hard drive. Classic Mac! Out with the old bring back the new. I wonder how those new $6000 headphones plug-in? Probably optical

There is no red light coming out of my optical when I plug it into the Mac pro laptop.
Its working seamlessly from my 2016 Mac mini. It's almost as if I don't have optical option turned on

Yes, optical has disappeared in recent times. My 2017 does not have it either. Your Mac has USB-C. So, try using this adapter: USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. You don't have to get Apple. But, for assurance purposes, I always go brand-for-brand (Apple-for-Apple), perhaps getting it at a retailer, rather than from Apple itself. Proceed with the configurations once all is connected through this adapter.
