"Disk is too slow (record)" error, CONSTANTLY!!

I've been getting the "Disk is too slow (record)" within the first 3 seconds of hitting record consistently for the last 5 months. Often it'll last even less time, sometimes a fraction of a second.

The Drive I/O meter sits at 0, before a sudden peak to 100% and the error message.

I've tried recording to 10 different internal & external drives (SSD and HDD) all with over 100gb space. I've tried different interfaces, different inputs, I've tried reinstalling Logic (different versions), I've tried trashing the preferences, I've tried recovering my system to another drive, but the problem persists.

Everything else functions fine. I've been mixing constantly in Logic during the 2020 lockdowns, all large projects with 50+ track projects, without any playback issue at all. So I don't believe for a moment that there is an actual "disk too slow" issue, it just happens when I hit record.

I've lost remote jobs I had in the pipeline for the BBC and have hit a brick wall delivering an album project that needs some final overdubs over this issue. I'm at my wits end!

I'm really hoping someone will be able to help be diagnose the potential issue so I can get back to work!

I've been a Logic user since version 3 (emagic days), and have never witnessed a situation like this.

Running Mac Pro 5,1 on latest Mojave version with Logic 10.5.1.

What I would try is to install a fresh Mojave incl. all system updates on a wiped external drive – preferably an SSD. Then boot from that drive and install only Logic. Then load your projects. If they work fine on there, then the issue is somewhere on your main system partition or drive. If they also fail, then there is some kind of a corruption within your project, or something with your Mac Pro hardware could be wrong. In the latter case, the next step would be to load the project on a different Mac.

In other words:

Try to exclude all possibilities and eventualites to narrow down the scope of your search for the culprit even more.

Some individual quick tests to narrow down your issue in less than 5 minutes:

• Use built in audio (input + output). Reboot Logic. Helped?

• Deactivate all third party plugins in the plugin manager. Reboot Logic. Helped?

• Create a new user account. Reboot your Computer and start from the new created account. Helped?

• Not really related but doesn't harm. Reset PRAM.

How are your drives formatted?
