iMovie High CPU Usage

Hi all,

(2020 intel, 4 port, 13 inch MBP, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD) (Catalina 10.15.7)

I was in an iMovie editing session and then I noticed the fans kick up on my MacBook. Funnily enough, I wasn't doing anything at the time, just skimming through the timeline. I checked Activity monitor and it said iMovie was using 500% of the CPU (or however its properly phrased) and that was odd, I checked energy and it had an energy impact of 450 compared to like 12 or less for the other 2 apps that I had open). I closed iMovie and it stopped but does anyone know why this is happening?

Sometimes the System Management Controller gets out of whack and needs resetting. Try the following procedures and see if that solves your issue:
