iPhone 12 Pro Max Speakerphone cuts on out calls

Hi all,

Recently returned to Apple after a few years with Android and have gone for the 12 Pro Max (grey 256Gb).

When making any video calls (on any app, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Google Meet) or using the speaker for calls using the phone app, the person I'm speaking to has trouble hearing me as my voice keeps cutting out for them. It seems to happen most when I am speaking and they either make a noise or speak.

I've been through the Apple support app and they indicated that quite a few people have reported this.

Apparently a software issue. I've tested all speakers and mics by recording using voice memos and video (front and rear camera).

My wife and mother in law have the exact same model phone as me and the same iOS version. I don't understand how it can be a software issue when they are running the same setup.

Has anyone else had this issue and more importantly, has it been resolved?

At the end of my tether here. Video calls are vital to my work and it looks really unprofessional.

Try going to settings >> accessibility >> audio/visual >> phone noise cancellation. Select this off. We did this on iPhone 12 with iOS 14.3 and it fixed the problem.

I have had my iphone 12 ProMax for a few months. Both when using speaker phone or just normally talking on the phone, the people I am speaking with constantly tell me my phone cuts out. It goes silent for a few seconds and then comes back. My phone is used for business and this is very unprofessional and frustrating to me and clients. I've tried disconnecting from 5G and going to LTE, tried wireless calling on and off, and these don't help the problem. After reading all the other posts, I am convinced it is an iphone issue, not a cellular provider issue. I never had this problem with my 6s!! Why pay $1,100 for a phone that doesn't work reliably? Very disappointed and frustrated. I don't know if going to a genius bar 30 miles away would even be worth the trouble since, by reading so many other posts, it hasn't helped others.

Yes I have the same problem I just got apple 12 max pro and it is the speaker. My sister said she could hear me that I was breaking up. So I thought about it it seemed to be only when I was using speaker . So I took it off talk to my sister for a half hour and it was fine. So now what they need to address the speaker problem. I had this phone for 3 weeks.

I purchased my 12 Pro Max on 3/12/2021 and am having the same problem. I had no idea about this issue (wish I had prior to purchase) until several people kept telling me I was cutting out while simply talking on the phone (not using speakerphone). I’m not very happy since the phone was $1,000. I was perfectly happy with my 10. Totally regret “upgrading”. I’m going to return the 12 but I’m not confident that a new one is going to miraculously fix the problem. I have friends and family who purchased the 12 back in October and have had no problem. Just doesn’t make sense. I hope Apple addresses this problem soon.

I have the same issue. iPhone 12 mini. Less than two weeks old. Have had this issue on almost every speaker phone call I've had. Two of people have iPhone 11s and both of them complained about me cutting out while on speaker phone. Made sure my finger wasn't covering the speaker, no mic holes blocked by case or anything else. This is super frustrating considering I have never had this problem with older models and these phones are quite expensive.

I am having same issue with calls on speaker cutting out for 30-45 seconds at a time. Sometimes it could also just be on the phone without the speaker. We could use a fix for this problem. Very frustrating. The folks on the other end are asking. So what phone you have ? They respond I guess I won’t buy that one then.

apple, please fix our phones and please stop the ad on 5G please.. my iPhone 6 was just as good. $1200 later, not impressed at all. The size is better the operations no good!

help!

Thanks for suggesting apple.com/feedback, which I have now done. I decided not to continue with support as I felt it was not good for me actually, and that it really is Apple's problem. Too many details were being asked of me in repeat calls and I had too many visits to the Apple store, but even so I really appreciate the people working in support - except one guy who inferred it was my problem, not theirs as their diagnostics found no issues. Well of course the diags found no problems as the problem has to be identified by Apple first. My 4th handset (12 mini, 12 mini, 12, now on 12 pro) seems to be a lot better, but people say it still cuts out here and there for a moment.

(Re. people dropping their phones - I got a military grade case to protect the phone, as I was advised the costs to repair are a concern. I think this was the right decision, but it means I don't see the beauty of the casing any more. I can be rougher with the phone anyway.)

I have been using the iPhone 11 Pro Max now for approximately 14 months. I had the same issue with the voice cutting out. Also my battery health dwindled down to 86% already. The voice for me is more concerning so I went and purchased the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. I am having the same issue with the 12 pro max regarding voice so I’ve decided to return the phone and maybe go a different route. If anyone has any suggestions beyond reset or apple support which does nothing in my previous experiences please give me some info. Thanks
