The original DVD(s) that you got with your 2009 Mac Book Pro
would install a very old version of Mac OS X either 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard.
Are you sure you want to downgrade your mac to such an old OS.
If you do you need to insert the DVD into the macs CD/DVD slot
and restart the mac while pressing and holding the C key.
Thank you Eau Rouge
I have some serious problems!
Installation with C-key
When I come to "Install Mac OS X" I select the HD for installing Mac OS X. Then I receive the message: "Mac OS X cannot start from this disk". Also after verifying the disk with Disk utility with the message that the disk is ok, I receive the same message.
Then I opted for the re-installation of the system from the backup of Time Machine. Now I receive the message "Install Failed" with the information that I should contact the Software Manufacturer for assistance!
My old Macbook worked perfectly before I tried to install an older OS. The reason is that I have some peripherals the manufacturers refuse to update their drivers to the latest Apple OS.
I would appreciate to get some help in order to get the old Mac working again.
Kind regards, G. Hues
Hi,
the problem may be caused by expired security certificates for the installation software.
So the Mac must be led to believe that it is in 2015, for example.
The solution of the problem:
The system time (date / time) can be reset using a terminal command.
1) Open Terminal
2) Enter the command to change the date
The command works in the terminal using the following syntax:
date mmddHHMMYYYY {month} {day} {hour} {minute} {year}
for example 12:00 p.m., 01/01/2015
Command in the terminal (copy and paste) ...
sudo date 010112002015
After successful installation, correct the system time again and problem is fixed.
(This worked for my old iMac 2007)
Hi,
Thanks Citrus 101. I changed the date with Terminal.
Loaded the OS Snow Leopard with the comment that it was loaded ok.
However, the Macbook did not start indicating loading error. Tried several time, tried to reset NVRAM, also tried starting again from backup.
Now the Macbook starts with showing the apple sign, but nothing happens, the little wheel is just turning. I cannot get to a point where I can change the date with Terminal. Do not find a way out!
