iphone 12 Pro Max Still Ringing in Silent Mode

Ok Folks!!! I just got off the phone with Apple support, this fix seems to have corrected the "ring while on silent" issue for me and maybe worth the try to see if it works for you as well. WARNING a little bit of a pain to clean this up...

Settings>General>Reset>Reset ALL Settings. Now while this does NOT erase your phone it will kick you off your wifi and adjust basic views and other personalized settings you may have already set but it will not erase any content!

After having completed this and putting my phone back to my usual views and preferences, I had several people call me with the phone set to "silent" NO MORE RING! I even switched the silent to ring while an inbound call was coming in to make sure and it worked properly. Like I said, a bit inconvenient and a little troublesome to put the phone back to your standard of preferences but it DID correct the ring on silent issue for me. Good luck!

I know what my problem was. Emergency contacts and emergency bypass. Means calls from a select few people would always ring regardless of silent mode.

Fixed by going in contacts and then for those contacts, under Ringtone unchecking “Emergency Bypass”

I did this a few days ago, and so far it has worked! I believe at least two or three other people on this chat have also been successful.

I too have the same issue where phone is always set to silent and random calls ring through. I've Reset All Settings and Erased All Content and Settings and neither resolved the issue. Running iOS 14.4 and still happening. Switching the phone from silent to ring and then back to silent seems to temporarily resolve the issue but shouldn't have to do that. Contacted Apple and have a case number and was told they'd send me a new phone but don't believe that would resolve the issue. Apple really needs to fix the issue!

It’s a pain but I did a reset and thankfully it worked and the phone stopped ringing on silent. The instructions can be found in feedback on this site. Hopefully it works for you.

Updating the iOS does not help the ringing when in silent mode. The only think that works is to reset all of your settings. I reset all of my settings 3 days after I got my 12, and the problem has been solved. That was 2 months ago and not a problem since then.

So, mine is also still ringing loud while switched on silent. Obviously apple should fix this issue but for anyone that is interested, I recommend going to the ringtones store and purchasing the ringtone called “silent”. It’s $1.29. I have done this and set it as my ringtone so now even if it rings as loud while on silent, my ringtone doesn't make any noise. Just a suggestion for a quick fix

Simple fix. It’s because the emergency bypass. Go to settings and turn it off. My issues was when my wife called my ringtone would go off even on silent go into edit the contact and turn it off. No need to reset all settings. It only Played ringtone when wife called so go into their contact and turn it off.

I just did a reset of all my settings, and my phone does not ring when in silent mode. So much for my feeling a few days ago of “Wow this is the easiest set up of an iPhone that I’ve ever had!” What a pain in the ***.

I’m on day 3 of doing the total reset of my settings and the problem of ringing in silent mode is gone. It’s a pain to have to redo all of my settings, but worth it to make the ringing in silent mode issue go away.

Customer service told me to reinstall the update with my laptop because it’s a bug causing the problem this did solve the ringing problem when on silent for me Havant had the issue for two weeks now guys so give that a try?

Yes connecting it to iTunes and reinstall the hole update that has fixed the ringing problem when on silent mode for me apple told me to do it that way also I was told to put the iPhone in recovery mode also iTunes helps sort out the bugs I was told it’s a bug in the update . hope this helps
