iphone 12 Pro Max Still Ringing in Silent Mode

Hi

i'd updated my iPhone 12 Pro Max to iOS 13.4, I always have my iPhone on Silent Mode. When I receive any type of call the iPhone rings with then designated ringtone, instead of ringing silently. I've not changed any settings when I was running iOS 13.3.1. The issue has only occurred since iOS 14.3. Text messages etc come through silently, so its just calls that don't.

The Silent Toggle on the left side of the iPhone is definitely toggle on.

Anyone else noticing the same issue?

Thanks in Advance

Barry :-)

Hello BarryMcKelvey,

We understand your iPhone 12 Pro Max is ringing while set to Silent. You’re in the right place, we’d be glad to assist in seeking a solution.

First restart your iPhone and see if the issue persists:

Restart your iPhone

Then check to see if certain contacts are set to "Emergency Bypass":

Edit contacts on iPhone

If not, check and see if you have Back Tap set up following the steps here:

Use Back Tap on your iPhone

This could be set to override Silent Mode.

Let us know the results.

Take care.

I updated my phone to the newest software, and I still had two calls come through yesterday, one was a Robo caller and one was someone on my contact list. I would encourage all of you to call Apple support and establish a case number because when I spoke with two different Apple representatives yesterday they said that they had not heard of this issue but it appears to be a fairly uniform issue with the new iPhone 12 ‘s, both the regular version and the promax version. Very frustrating. I asked them if they ever read these discussions on their own tech-support website and they were noncommittal. Really??? They just want me to erase my iPhone and restore it from a back up, I do not trust that that will make any difference but I’m going to try that today, it just takes quite a bit of time. My phone is only a month old!

FYI... the forum is for users which in most cases Apple does NOT review. I agree we should be calling Apple to create a call log and ticket. I can also assure you that this is a software issue and nothing to do with restoring your phone. Since the new update, this bug was not addressed in the specific update because they were not aware of it during the build cycle. If enough of us report the issue Apple may include this with the next update as a bug fix.

Hi

I had reported the issue to Apple, they spent about two/three weeks getting me to do various checks and carry out various texts which were then forwarded to the Engineering Team. I'd advised Apple that I wasn't the only one with the issue and that I'd created this thread and was getting responses from others. To cut a long story short, Apple have said it wait for an update the address the issue.

Ok Folks!!! I just got off the phone with Apple support, this fix seems to have corrected the "ring while on silent" issue for me and maybe worth the try to see if it works for you as well. WARNING a little bit of a pain to clean this up...

Settings>General>Reset>Reset ALL Settings. Now while this does NOT erase your phone it will kick you off your wifi and adjust basic views and other personalized settings you may have already set but it will not erase any content!

After having completed this and putting my phone back to my usual views and preferences, I had several people call me with the phone set to "silent" NO MORE RING! I even switched the silent to ring while an inbound call was coming in to make sure and it worked properly. Like I said, a bit inconvenient and a little troublesome to put the phone back to your standard of preferences but it DID correct the ring on silent issue for me. Good luck!

You just have to know what things you like as preferences such as I like the icons zoomed for larger icons. Also like a family beach pick for my lock and Home Screen. Text size and you will need to re enter your Wi-Fi password. It will kick it out. Like I said I don’t know of a given link to re establish certain preferences and that it will take a few moments to put your phone back to the way you like it. I wish I had an easy answer for you but so far the fix has worked. As for today I have had over 63 calls and with the phone set on silent it still hasn’t rung!!!!

My iPhone 12 Pro continues to ring when on silent. This is not acceptable. The phone is only a few months old. Since this has been happening to avoid embarrassment I now have to power the phone off. Again this is not acceptable. Should I turn this phone in and order a new one? I suppose so as the phone is awfully expensive. Please fix this issue as the new software update 14.4 did not fix it.

This is exactly what’s happening to me. I have reached out to apple support. And told them that my problems started only once I updated the phone. They don’t seem to accept that the 14.3 software has a issue.

they are making me restart the phone .. change ring tone and change umpteen other settings. I know that it’s of no use to sort out the issue

Mine is still ringing in silent mode with new update. It seems to be randomly not all calls and i have the iphone 12 pro max very annoying! Have had more issues with this phone then any other iphone. Like glass scratching easily never had one single scratch on my iphone 11 pro max i traded in for this one and the first week i had it a scratch right on the face not noticeable with screen protector on but i know and thats enough! My phones are always in perfect condition and now the ringing on silent mode very annoying!🤔

I had the same and someone here suggested a phone reset. It doesn’t erase the data but you have to reconfigure your preferences. If you reset it’s a slight pain so make sure you know what they are. I was too annoyed with the ringing on silent crap so took the plunge. A message said we need to let Apple know because they aren’t aware and this is a software problem. That’s why they said IOS 14.4 didn’t correct the problem. Apple didn’t address the bug. So far the silent mode has been working. I pray this is the solution but idk. Best wishes ... cos it is a pain

I upgraded from an iPhone 8 to the iPhone 12 and it was ringing while in silent mode within a few hours after purchase, which was 4 days ago. Today I had a chat with Apple support and their answer was that my phone needs "serviced" through them or since I just bought it, they suggested that I could return for a new phone. Thought maybe I had a bum phone, but after reading this thread, it appears that it's an OS issue. This is a really annoying issue, and pretty **** disappointing. I'm going to try the suggestion of resetting all settings....hope it works. I also plan to call Apple.
