choppy slow motion

I have been trying to slow down footage but when I do, it is choppy instead of smooth.

I have footage shot in 60fps, dropping it into a 24fps timeline. When I hit the retime editor, i choose automatic speed. I have tried the optical flow option and even frame blending but its not giving the smooth results that I should be getting.

Clip:

Timeline:

No matter what I do, it never seems to be smooth. I know my shutter speed was at least 60fps when I shot because it doesnt allow me to go below the video frame rate when shooting. I have exported the clip as well to make sure it wasn't just an computer playback issue and it was still choppy.

Thanks for any input

This looks like the clip was recorded with a high shutter speed.

What you see is probably just a combination of that and the relatively low 23.98 frame rate. (*)

You might try adding a little blur.

One common technique is the following: duplicate the clip and place the two copies one above the other. (Option-dragging is an easy way to do it)

Nudge the top clip so it is one frame off. Set the opacity of both clips to 50%.

This will add a bit of motion blur and make the movement look a bit smoother.

Im not sure I'm entirely following what you mean. To be clear, the video was originally recorded at 4K60fps with a shutter speed of 60. Then in editing i made timeline that is 24fps that went along with other media that I shot at 24fps. From my understanding, I should be able to stretch the video out that has 60 frames per seconds in the 24 timeline without any choppiness.

Movement in video shot at 24fps has motion blur on the frames. Because of your high frame and shutter speed there is no motion blur on each frame. When you expand your video so each frame of 60fps is on a frame of 24fps your frames do not have the blur you would expect to create the illusion of smooth motion at the low frame rate. Your video appears to skip between frames.
