I can't re-add a fingerprint after upgrading to macOS Big Sur

I haven't been presented the option to log in with my touch id for the past few hours after updating, and now I can't even add a fingerprint after I have removed it to reapply it once again. What can I do?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

My problem is exactly what the original user described. My MacBook Pro was using macOS Catalina, and I was able to set up my fingerprint ID just fine, and it worked correctly. Then I "upgraded" to macOS Big Sur, and now my fingerprint ID will not work, and to make things worse, I tried removing my existing fingerprint, rebooted, and then tried to create a new fingerprint. It won't let me do that.
