Logic pro x 10.6 crashing when closing sessions

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue since the Logic 10.6 update - whenever I close a session (including when I open a second session, thereby closing the current one) Logic crashes. It happens regardless of the size of the project, or whether or not there are any third-party plugins loaded. It's a relatively minor disruption - the sessions themselves all seem to be running fine, everything is saving properly, etc - but it's nonetheless a frustrating issue when I'm frequently moving back and forth between different projects. The 10.6.1 update hasn't fixed anything.

If anyone else has had this issue and/or solved it I would be grateful to hear about it! It was never an issue on 10.5, so I'm guessing it's something new to 10.6...

I'm on a 2019 MBP 16-inch, running macOS 10.15.7

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your help, Lukas. I followed your instructions and the problem was persisting even with all plugins disabled and preferences reset, but it got me thinking about other drivers I had installed - it appears that the issue was with control surface settings for a Nektar keyboard that I no longer use. Anyway, I deleted them and all seems right in the world again! Hopefully this information is useful if anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

Thanks again!

Standard "1st stage" troubleshooting steps, approx. in this order until you can replicate the issue or until it disappears:

  • Disable all 3rd party plugins via Logic Pro menu > Preferences > Plug-in Manager, restart Mac, launch Logic
  • Quit Logic, move com.apple.logic10.plist out of the (usually hidden) ~/Library/Preferences folder to reset preferences (don't trash the file yet!), relaunch Logic. Alternatively you can also use the Reset Your Preferences… menu command, but I guess it will trash the prefs file, so you may want to make a copy first anyway.
  • Reinstall 3rd party audio interface drivers, if any.
  • Reenable the previously disabled plugins one by one until you find the culprit, if any.
