Redeem Apple News code outside the US

Hi! I have kindly received a 3 month free subscription to Apple News, by a code I can redeem.This was given to me by a friend in the USA. My problem is that when I tried to redeem it, it said that “the code is only redeemable in a US store”. As I’m not from the US, it didn’t work for me.

After some research I found an article telling me that I could change the region my phone is in. Did that. My says it’s in the us, but I still couldn’t redeem my code. Am I doing something wrong, can I somehow redeem the code in my country or should I just tell my friend to give the code to someone else?

Did you do something wrong. Yes, you are trying to game the system.

The gift code is for use inside the US only. You do not live in the US.

To use the US store, you must live in the US, have a payment method for the US such as a credit card from a US bank and have a verifiable billing address in the US.

Your friend should use the code himself. The fine print on the gift code likely states it is not transferable to someone else.
