iPad Air 4 battery life & is it safe to use while charging?

I’ve had my iPad Air 4 for a week long and I’ve been using it everyday since I received it. Although, the first thing I noticed was how fast the battery drains out. It uses around 1% to 3% of it’s battery every 5 to 10 minutes and I’m just wondering if that’s really how it is for an iPad—I was expecting it to last longer then. (When using procreate/playing games without pause, it lasts around 5 to 6 hours). But I also heard it was because of the software update (iOS 14) so at this point I’m not too sure if I should worry or not.

Also, is it safe to use (ex. note-taking, watching videos, playing games, using procreate) while the iPad Air 4 while charging? I’ve done it for the past few days and noticed my iPad heating up (warmer than usual, especially when playing games), and now I’m anxious that it may damage the battery/hardware of the iPad. This is my very first iPad and I plan to use it long-term as my main device but I’m not familiar with the do’s and don’ts of caring for it. If you have any tips on how to care for the iPad and make sure it lasts long, please let me know as well!
