Hello alessioBliss3t,

We understand you're having some issues with your MacBook Pro's Touch Bar display flickering, and showing colored vertical bands after upgrading to macOS Big Sur. We definitely get wanting to have full functionality of your MacBook Pro's Touch Bar, so we're more than happy to help see if we can isolate what's causing this.

To begin, do the vertical bars/flickering issues occur no matter how the Touch Bar is set up? For example, if you customize the Touch Bar, does the issue continue? Let's try doing so, using the steps here (under the "Customize the Control Strip" section):

Use the Touch Bar on MacBook Pro

If the issue persists, let's try having you boot into safe mode: this will help us to isolate if this could be occurring due to certain software that's loading up with your Mac. Please review the following article, starting with the "How to use safe mode: Intel processor" section:

How to use safe mode on your Mac

From there, should you continue to experience any issues, let's have you try resetting your System Management Controller. The system management controller is responsible for managing behaviors related to these features: power, fans, sensors, keyboard backlighting, etc. Please review the following article, under the "Notebook computers with a nonremovable battery" section for instructions on how to reset your Mac's SMC:

How to reset the SMC of your Mac

We're confident that these steps should help resolve that you're experiencing: in the event that you do continue to experience issues, we may need to get your device physically inspected. Please check the following link for information on how to get your Mac inspected by Apple Support:

Cheers!

Dear Joseph, thanks for your answer but I am very disappointed. Let me explain better the situation here. I upgraded my MacBook Pro 2017 Touch Bar to BigSur and, upon restarting, the display began to flicker with the final appearance of huge purple vertical bands. My Mac has become unusable (but works with an external monitor). I called Apple telephone assistance and performed all types of tests and resets (SMC, PRAM, diagnostics, safe reboot, recovery mode, new operating system installation) but the problem persists. I have always used my devices with obsessive care, so I exclude any accidental damage to the display. The problem appeared and continues to persist only after the software update. I then went to an authorized Apple service center. I was told that my Mac has an hardware problem and the only possible solution is to replace the display. Since the guarantee expired in May 2020, the cost of the operation would be around 700 euros. It seems incredible to me that a display of a "pro" computer like mine still suffer of the very well known issues of the 2016 series. In fact, I am aware of a display replacement program for 2016 MacBook Pro models affected by the same problem as me. Over the internet there are several threads in which evident problems with the displays of the 2017 MacBook Pro are reported. To pay 700 euros for a known problem (made manifest by a software update) seems to me really excessive. It is simply crazy that you don't extend the display replacement program for a known issue of your products. I am so disappointed that I canceled an order of a new iMac that I made some days ago. I will not buy (or recommend to buy) another apple device until you start to care about your "pro users". All the best with your iPhones.
