How do I mute the microphone during a phone call lor FaceTime/Zoom/Skype call?

A work colleague of mine suggested just buying a gamer headset like the SteelSeries ArcTis 7 has a mute button on the headset.
no idea why Apple didn’t add this when so many of us are working from home on zoom/conference calls with kids 😀
