Why do the workouts not show through screen mirroring or lightning to HDMI cable? The preview video works but when I start the actual workout I only get sound through the tv.
You need the Apple TV. You can’t mirror. Start the Fitness+ app, and when you get to the video after you select you workout (before hitting Play) in the lower right is the Displays icon, and you can choose the Apple TV to display it. Make sure your Apple TV is up to the latest version.

I have spent a small fortune on Apple products. I should be able to mirror and airplay my supposedly “free” Apple fitness program to my Tv but can’t. I would like to be able to use this program but not if I have to buy something else.. I will not be subscribing to Apple Fitness when my free trial is over in 3 months if Apple doesn’t fix this. There are plenty of other work-out programs available.

I've spent a small fortune on Apple products therefore I should be able to run macOS on a Chromebook..... I spent a small fortune on my gasoline-powered car, therefore, I should be able to run it on electricity.

I agree 100% with your post. The only reason screen mirroring does not work on your tv is because Apple designed it that way to force you to buy Apple TV for the tv you want to use fitness+ on. That’s pretty sad because I think they would have a lot more people signing up for their bundled products... especially the one for 29.95 per month which includes fitness+
I 100% agree. So disappointing and no wonder why people move over to other brands.
