somehow the phone icon on my iphone x got moved to only the "social" area and disappeared from the task bar at the bottom of my phone. How do I get it back to the bottom?

I'm not sure what you mean by "social" area but the following has instructions on how to move apps to the dock from the home screen and folders. If it is in the App Library (after the last home screen) slide it to the left to a home screen and then into the dock. See: Move and organize apps on iPhone - Apple Support

the social category in the App Library I assume you are indicating?
you must have 'Removed' the Phone app accidentally.
From your Home Screen, swipe left until you get to the App Library.
Swipe downward and you'll get an alphabetical list of your apps, scroll to locate the Phone app.
Or, type 'Phone' into the search field.
Once you locate the Phone app in the list, tap/hold until it raises/selects, then drag it. This will pop it out to your Home Screen.
