Iphone Calendar Events are disappearing

My iphone calendar has started deleting past events, but only from the current year 2020. (Past events from pre-2020 still show up.) I've gone into my Settings and made sure that under Calendar I have it synced for "All Events." I tried turning that on and off. I tried rebooting the phone. Nothing changes.

Per the suggestion of Leeanne in this Community last October, I did a test and created a fake event on 10/13 to see how long it would take for it to disappear. The event stayed on my calendar until 12/15 (approximately two months) but then disappeared. Any ideas on what is going on?

What do you sync your calendar with? For example, Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendar, Microsoft Office 365? Each of these has server-side settings on event retention.

Aha! I think we're on to something. I sync very sporadically, probably about once a month. I just tried putting a couple of "test" events on my iPhone calendar back in October 2020, then synced using iTunes. The past events disappeared. So it does seem that the syncing has something to do with it.

So you are not syncing using iCloud. I switched to iCloud about 5 years ago, so I’m not familiar with the latest sync process, but it’s probably unrelated to your issue.

Open the Calendar app and tap on Calendars at the bottom of the screen. Are all calendars checked?

I'm a novice at this and am not sure I understand your question. I sync my phone with the calendar on my MacBook Pro (which btw does NOT drop past events). But other than that, I am not aware that I sync with anything.

No. "Home," "Calendar," and "Work" are not checked. However, there's a (null) version of all three of those that ARE checked. Whatever that means.

Then I have no idea what happened to your events. One possibility is to check the sync settings you are using; as I recall there is a setting to not sync completed events; it would be in iTunes settings, not on the phone.

You say you sync calendars with iTunes; how often do you sync, and do these events disappear only after you sync, or before you do?
