Your payment method was declined

Im really getting ****** off. I keep getting "Your payment method was declined" when I try to purchase an e-mail voucher for a friend. I have spent 2.5 hours trying to solve this, I know how much my friend would appreciate it else I would tell apple to get fu$%ed since getting help does not seem possible. I have tried 2 different accounts. I just want to buy a freaking voucher or punch an apple employee. Anyone know what is going on?

That does not work for me. My StrongVPN connection breaks out in the UK where my banks accounts are, my credit cards are, and where my iTunes account is (but where I am not) and everything still gets declined. What am I expected to do? Change my iTunes store location evertime few I get sent on another consulting assignment? That won't work for me. The bottom line is that Apple is just too bloody awkward to deal with. Worse is their superior attitude that clearly (but silently through non-responsiveness) invites you to **off when you don't like the way they do things.

I have already made my mind up. I got the iPhone after getting an iPad and liking it. I also started leaning toward Apple as my next choice for desktop computers, as the interface is compelling and there is a lot of creative development for Apple products, but there is no way a locked-down and controlling system like this can compete with an open-source platform like Android. Not as far as I am concerned.

My wife now has a shiny (slightly used [for a few weeks]) iPhone that cannot get access to the iTunes store, or to any apps, and I am out this afternoon to get the HTC Desire.

So ends my trial of Apple.

Add another itunes user who can't log onto the store.

Would be no problem except that I get an automated response that basically says that service is what they are after, in which a simple one sentence answer to what their problem is.

What a joke. This is the easiest way to pass microsoft in the most hated computer company just by jerking me off.

Apple, you are useless, and your service *****, as it is useless and easier if I just post the whole world that you don't care anuwy....

Hey guys,

It seems that Apple is now IP blocking. I have bought stuff using my VPN without a problem, but when I try to purchase without the VPN, it gets declined. Apple is ******* me off and their support is useless. 3 days and no reply from anyone there. I am about sick of Apple at this point. What kind of support service has no telephone numbers where you can call someone for help? This email is great for them because it let's them talk down to you.

I posted this in another thread similar to this and hope this may be useful to some. There is a problem and there is a partial workaround while they fix it. Please contact iTunes by email in order to have your accounts unblocked.
"This is definitely a system glitch from Apple iTunes that was happening to fewer people last year and intensified this last couple of weeks to a lot of people. It is not a geo location problem, but some issue with the application store anti-piracy system or whatever security feature on iTunes that became rogue.

The offending computer or device used with the account when attempting to purchase an application, becomes blocked (or embargoed) with the credit card declined loop were it is not a problem with the card, as any other payment type are also blocked, including the "none" option.

There is no need for people to VPN as the problem is also happening to US accounts based in the US, like mine.

The workaround is logging to the iTunes account in a computer different from the one that "caused" the glitch and filling up the remaining information when asked to verify the account. Still did not verify if this works under iTunes 10, but all different computers under version 9 I tried worked. However they became blocked again when tried to purchase an app. It has to be done with a computer that did not try to purchase apps after the first computer was blocked.

The embargo will continue on the app store and the user will be able only to update applications, download free applications, buy movies and songs or whatever. Don´t try to purchase apps or your computer will become blocked again.

This will work on all devices linked to one´s iTunes account, including Apple TV, PCs, iPhones and iPads.

This will work until a supervisor at iTunes unblocks your computers and account. They are overburdened with the launch of the new ipods and new iTunes 10. In my case still waiting for more than a week exchanging messages with an extremely polite agent that can´t do this by herself. iTunes does not have a customer service desk reachable by phone, only email. So hold on to your seats.

When attempting to purchase an application, the in use device or computer will become blocked and the verify account information loop will come back. Then the fix has to be find another computer (not used before) and start all over again. This works like a virus that spreads after the first device is infected as the account becomes infected. Only a non infected computer can be used for the workaround.

I am sure Apple, as a great company they are, will fix this on due time and when they recognize the problem(maybe they already have), but until then this is what is presented. "

I am having the same issue. Why doesn't iTunes have a customer service phone number? Ridiculous. I own 2 ipod touches, an iphone and an ipad. I can't purchase any apps or songs because the payment system is clearly not functioning. I used the same paypal account for years on itunes and all of a sudden it doesn't work. I tried adding 3 different cards and they all say DECLINED. Doesn't make any sense. Does anyone have an answer?

Did you try the workaround I mentioned before? You will be able to purchase songs and rent/buy movies, update apps and get free apps, but not purchase apps, by using a computer that was not used with your account to purchase apps. You will be able to confirm your payment method and out of the iTunes bug/loop. If you try to purchase apps this computer/device will become blocked also.
This has to be worked via email with iTunes tech support. It does take time at this juncture.
They will fix this bug in the future. However until then, this is the only way.
Agree with you iTunes customer service should have a phone.

As a follow up to my last post. I have to disagree with you a bit regarding the VPN issue. On my Mac Mini, I can purchase things at will, however if I use my MBP or iPhone or iPad, I have to engage the VPN which lands me in the US, and I am allowed to purchase, so it does appear that Apple is geo-locating to some extent. The Mini was hardly ever used to purchase anything so this might coincide with your statement about utilizing computers that never purchased before. I can also say the same regarding my Windows computer as well. It can purchase without a VPN as well. So it would appear that Apple is blocking or flagging my Mac and other iDevices.

I've been having the same problem. You'd think that Apple would want to do some damage control by disclosing to everyone what the issue is--or at least giving everyone a warning that their system is down instead of telling everyone that their credit card has been declined. They must have had a major security breach of everyone's credit card data and now they're freezing that capability until they can secure their credit card processes and notify everyone that they've had a breach.

Are you purchasing apps on the VPN computer in the US? The flagging is just for purchasing apps. If you confirm payment method on a computer not blocked before by iTunes app store you will be able to purchase anything besides apps on any device. You will be able to update and "buy" free apps. However if you try purchasing an app all computers and devices will be blocked as the account will go into the payment confirm loop. You will be able to confirm payment only on a computer not blocked by iTunes. The only fix is emailing iTunes customer support and wait, wait...
